Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

Alder (“we”, “us”) is a postpartum guidance app operated from New Zealand. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what we will never do with it. We’ve written it in plain language on purpose.

The short version

Your daily check-ins exist to show you your own patterns. We don’t sell your information, we don’t share your health entries with advertisers, and our advertising tools never see your check-in answers. You can ask us to delete everything at any time by emailing support@joinalder.com.

What we collect

Account information: your email address and password when you sign up.

Recovery information you choose to enter: your birth date and birth type during onboarding, and your daily check-ins (such as bleeding level, pain, mood, and any notes you write). This is sensitive health information and we treat it that way.

Payment information: payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Stripe shares with us only what’s needed to confirm your purchase (such as the last four digits and the transaction outcome). Stripe’s own privacy policy applies to the payment itself.

Technical information: like most websites, we collect basic usage data (pages visited, device type, approximate region) through cookies and similar technologies, to keep the app working and understand how it’s used.

What we use it for

  • To run the app: your birth date and birth type shape which week’s content and exercises you see.
  • To show you your own patterns: your check-ins power your dashboard and history. That is their only job.
  • To alert you: if a check-in matches a recognised warning sign, we show you a red-flag alert suggesting you contact your midwife, GP, or emergency services. This happens inside the app; it is guidance, not diagnosis.
  • To support you: if you email us, we use your account details to help.
  • To improve Alder: aggregated, de-identified usage patterns (never your individual entries) help us understand what’s working.

Advertising, and the line we don’t cross

We advertise Alder on platforms like Meta (Facebook and Instagram). Our website uses the Meta Pixel to measure whether ads work — it records events like page views, sign-ups, and purchases.

The line: our advertising tools never receive your check-in answers, your birth type, or anything you write in the app. No bleeding levels, no pain scores, no moods, no notes — ever. Advertising measurement sees that a sign-up or purchase happened, not who you are inside the app or what you’ve recorded.

Who else touches your data

We use a small number of service providers to run Alder: our app platform and hosting provider (Base44), our database provider, our payment processor (Stripe), and our email provider for support. Each receives only what it needs to do its job, and none may use your information for their own purposes.

We do not sell your personal information to anyone. We do not share your recovery information with advertisers, data brokers, insurers, or employers.

We would disclose information only if required by New Zealand law, or to protect someone’s safety in an emergency.

Where it lives and how long

Your information is stored securely with our hosting providers, which may be located outside New Zealand; where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure comparable privacy protection. We keep your information while your account exists. If you delete your account or ask us to, we delete your personal information within 30 days, except minimal records we’re legally required to keep (such as tax records of purchases).

Your rights

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you can ask us at any time to:

  • See the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct anything that’s wrong
  • Delete your account and your information

Email support@joinalder.com and we’ll action it — no forms, no fees, no friction. If you’re not satisfied with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz).

Not medical advice, and not for children

Alder provides guidance and support; it is not medical advice and doesn’t replace your midwife or GP. Alder is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

If you’re experiencing thoughts of self-harm or feel unsafe, please call 000 now, or contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 (free, 24/7).

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top always shows the current version.
